TECHNICAL INFORMATION

APPROXIMATE STOCK SHEET SIZE:

  • Qtr. & Flat Cut   4’ x 8’

VENEER THICKNESS:

  • Qtr. & Flat Cut  .039

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Brookline®, the genuine hardwood veneer, should be bonded to a high quality 5-ply plywood, medium or high density fiberboard, particleboard, or similar products using a rigid glue line with a press. Follow the recommendations of the adhesive manufacturer. Use of contact cement is not recommended.

The substrate must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease or any foreign matter. Holes, depressions, indentations, or raised areas must be filled or sanded smooth. Unroll and carefully inspect the Brookline® to ensure the back side is free of dust and dirt.

Take care to assure that a moisture imbalance does not exist between Brookline® and the substrate prior to fabrication (refer to limitations). A balancing back must be used.

FINISHING:

Brookline® can be lightly stained. Samples are available for testing. Brookline® requires the same finishing steps as conventional veneer. First, a sufficient sanding is needed to smooth the surface of Brookline®. Second, depending on the final finish, apply one or more sealer coats. Finally, using standard finishing materials such as oil, lacquer, varnish, urethane, polyester or other similar finishes, apply the top coat(s). please refer to the limitations section. Follow all instructions of the finish manufacturer.

LIMITATIONS:

Do not use Brookline® for exterior use or direct application to plaster walls, gypsum wallboard, or concrete walls.

Since Brookline® sheets are not inert, they are sensitive to ambient atmospheric conditions such as temperature and moisture. It is essential to properly condition Brookline® along with the substrate and adhesive prior to fabrication. Temperature when handling should not be below 65F with a relative humidity of 45% to 60%.

Pigments are sensitive to ultraviolet light, and all woods will fade or change color with prolonged exposure to light. Certain pigments, such as pastel colors, are more sensitive to light and extra care should be used to protect them from UV exposure. A UV inhibiting finish must be used with all wood. With colors that are sensitive to light, an overstain must also be used.

Brookside Veneers Ltd. was founded in 1973 to service the architectural community with high quality exotic wood products. Our stated intent, as shown in our mission statement, is to provide the best possible product, service, and quality. The success of this approach has allowed us to expand into the furniture, door, and cabinet industries as well.

The advent of systems furniture, in both contract and residential areas, created a demand for defect-free veneers with consistent grain and color. Our solution was BROOKLINE® VENEER, and for twenty years furniture systems have utilized BROOKLINE® veneer as a unifying decorative wood element. And, since its introduction, we have expanded the Brookline family of production to allow complete integration of all wood elements in a project, including doors, panels, furniture, and millwork. Our intent is to offer designers complete flexibility in their project planning.
